Raabta Movie Review
Expectations are huge from RAABTA, due to big names associated with the project, namely, T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar, producer Dinesh Vijan ( LOVE AAK KAL, COCKTAIL, BADLAPUR etc), who makes his directorial debut with RAABTA and co-producer, Homi Adajania ( COCKTAIL and FINDING FANNY). And when its Pritam's band JAM 8, along with ace lyricists Irshad Kamil and Amitabh Bhattacharya, prospect gets even brighter.
The playlist gets the desired chartbusting start with 'Ek Vaari Aa' and none better than the man with the golden voice, Arjit Singh, to set up the tempo with an electrifying performance in this call for beloved number. Composer deserves accolades for choosing a fresh, lively and very easy on the lips tune that lingers long in memory and superb background orchestrations and Amitabh Bhattacharya's lyrics conjure up a lovely song that will surely top charts.
RAABTA MOVIE STILLS
We have the Jubin Nautiyal version as well and one does not mind a repeat of a lovely number like 'Ik Vaari Aa'. Jubin renders it well enough, giving it his own deft touches.
Pritam-Irshad's super hit number from AGENT VINOD, 'Raabta', gets a superb makeover and is rendered elegantly by Nikhita Gandhi whose husky vocals suit smoking hot, Deepika Padukone, who features in the title song and its video is already creating a huge buzz.
Most wanted munda, Diljit Dosanjh, has been roped in for a truly unique rap and hip hop number, 'Sadda Move' that introduces the male lead and his boy gang following their dhamaal journey from North India (Delhi, Agra, Punjab to the Overseas). Diljit's rendition adds 'chaar chand' and giving him apt support is Pradeep Singh Sran. The lyrics a good mix of simple Urdu, Punjabi and Hinglish ('Mere mehboob, Dekho sadda move' ) will be appreciated by the youth.
A must in all romantic movies, a true blue separation number, 'Lambi Si Judaiyaan', makes us take a stroll down the memory lane with its seventies-eighties melodic influences but is camouflaged thru contemporary musical addendums with sufi inspired backdrop. Arijit aces yet again with good support from Shadab and Altamash Faridi.
Keeping aside all the controversies, 'Main Tera Boyfriend', a refurbished version of a non-filmy track, J Star's Punjabi pop hit, 'Na Na Na' (music by Sohrabuddin and lyrics by Jitendra Raghuvanshi), sees Arjit Singh (surprisingly) behind the mike with Neha Kakkar providing full on support. One does not fathom the inclusion of this track in the album as it does not gel well with the overall scheme of things, but maybe it has been added to charm the youth.
Last but not the least, 'Darasal' rendered by the ever popular Atif Aslam' whose deep, husky inebriated vocals do wonders to this lovely love ballad that has an unplugged touch to it with minimalistic background music(just guitar and other percussions) and only Atif's vocals doing the job. And of course, Irshad's lyrics are just superb!
To conclude, the album of RAABTA does come up trumps and fulfils expectations, and the composers deserve to be congratulated for coming up with compositions that are not just commercially viable but have a class appeal attached. Our picks- 'Ek Vaari Aa', ''Raabta' and 'Darasal'. The movie releases all over this Friday and one is sure that the songs will attain more popularity after that.

Surprising as it may sound, its Rajkummar Rao's (RKR) double-bill this Friday! But the funny thing about it is that the one film (BEHEN HOGI TERI) where he is probably all over but unfortunately the 'Film' is not (in theaters) and the other film that is all over (RAABTA) but then he is (almost) not.
RAABTA MOVIE STILLS
Well, we are talking about the latter that also stars Sushant Singh Rajput, a banker, exported to an European country. Here he meets a 'halwai' who makes 'mithai' in the form of chocolates. And all the youth would want to believe that the first meeting itself takes lips... sorry life to the next level and soon they are in bed. There is also the third angle to this triangle with Jim Sarbh playing a liquor baron also hitting it off with Kriti Sanon on the very first meeting and all hell breaks loose. Wait, we think it is just a day or two old relationship; but apparently it is 'hazar saal' old incomplete love (triangle) story.
Back then our 'halwai' was a warrior princess much-in love with another warrior (Jim) of the same tribe but to save the tribe eventually falls in for another man (Sushant). A bit too complicated as it sounds, we also could not figure out until we had been through the entire candy floss first half trying to figure out what we were about to experience in the next. Oh, there is RKR as so-to-say 'sutradhar' of the past life spilling the beans for the next life.
RAABTA does have a sidekick in Varun Sharma to bring some comic relief in the boring goings-on but the icing-on-the-cake (for fans) is the forced inclusion of Deepika Padukone in its title song, which is a 're-incarnated' song (read version) from Dinesh Vijan's past - AGENT VINOD.
RAABTA sees the role reversal in COCKTAIL's director Homi Adajania producing the movie where as Dinesh Vijan who produced COCKTAIL helming RAABTA. The production values, as far as the contemporary (times) story is concerned, are top class and very polished. Sushant Singh Rajput shows his confidence whereas Kriti Sanon's acting is restrained. Jim tries to get into a barons 'suit' this time (post NEERJA) but does not get too much to explore though. In terms of costume design or makeup, guess the most efforts must have gone in Rajkummar Rao's character design, but then was it really so important in the narrative after all?
Well, it's almost raining and visiting a nearby Cineplex with your bae to get some cool two and a half hour of personal time might make some sense. Else ask your mom to make some pakodas with hot tea while you go and pick up either COCKTAIL if you wish to see some contemporary glamorous romance in some firang land or the once alleged source of RAABTA to experience some re-incarnation costume drama with tout action. This and everything in-between is what we have been getting week after week.
