Director Ananth Mahadevan and composer Himesh Reshammiya musical hit, AKSAR, still remains etched out in the minds of music lovers and one expects an encore with musical murder mystery XPOSE, which stars the composer himself as the lead actor. Giving him company (on screen as well!) is the hugely popular, Yo Yo Honey Singh and both gelled well in KHILADI 786, the songs of which are still popular. So let's check out what these big guns have in store to expose musically in this album.

The highlights of the 'Ice Cream' song is Yo Yo Honey Singh's rap and vintage Himesh Reshammiya's nasal singing and not to forget Palak Muchchal's fine rendition. The retro era is well created through some fine 'dhinchak' RD Burman type music, the sort that Himesh successfully created in 'Balma' (KHILADI 786. But one still prefers 'Balma' for its superb rhythm which this number lacks.

'Ice Cream Remix' by Kiran Kamath is noisy and with more background instrumentations.

Lovely piano strings riffs, superb guitaring, haunting melody (albeit 'Tum Hi Ho' does ring a strong bell here but only briefly) and harmonica, its once again vintage Himesh Reshammiya in 'Dard Dilon Ke'. Composed with minimalistic background musical arrangements, singer Irfaan Mohammad's emotive vocals, the song does have it to become a chartbuster. Once again that heard before feel is a let down by Himesh's standard.

'Dard Dilon Ke' remix by Dj Kiran Kamath makes for a pleasant hear with added beats and heightened rhythm.

Dev Anand's memorable number, 'Hai Apna Dil Toh Awara' (SOLVA SAAL) provides the perfect platform (lyrically) for a totally new number of a similar name. The soft smooth melody with equally soft singing by Himesh and Yo Yo (who commences the song with a nice sing- song type English rap) makes this an interesting listen as long as it lasts, though nothing to shout about!

'Hai Apna Dil' Blue's remix by Kiran Kamath is pleasant to the ears and makes for a good second hear.

'Hai Apna Dil' desi remix is interesting with lots of Hindustani musical instruments used in the background.

Another 'X' factor is the dialogue, designed to reflect the state of the hero of the film - Himesh. Even though the joke is on him, Himesh delivers the lines with an 'innocent-matter-of-fact-charm'.

He makes a joke about his looks, acting, style and whatever else there is left to make a joke of. A very sporting gesture from him.

Both the the lead girls make a decent debut. Zoya Afroz as Chandni and Sonali Raut as Zara. We should be able to see more of them.

Yo Yo Singh, a Harbhajan Singh lookalike without his turban, should concentrate on singing, just like Himesh should.

But then, who will bell the cat?

This movie is inspired by real incidents. I don't know how one can authenticate this. But if there is a line stating this fact at the start of the film, I guess it must be true. So I shall not try to dig out facts as to which heroine fell down when and from where.

THE XPOSE begins with the fall of a rising starlet from a building that is hosting a success party right after an Awards Night. At her funeral, the finger of suspicion points to various people associated with her during her short stint in the industry.

Then we go back to a sixties style setting with Irrfan Khan as Alec D'Costa, a black marketer, narrating the story.

During the story, the same scene [with the girl falling] is shown three more times; once it is the actual fall. By the end, Himesh Reshammiya who plays Ravi Kumar, once a tough cop and now an aspiring Bollywood actor who has a solid following in the south a la Rajnikanth, cracks the case and nails the murderer. This is done in the courtroom, with the permission of the judge, just before the trial begins.

The movie is slick in the way it is executed; stylish with good settings. The music also has a distinct flavour of the bygone era and is a mixture of old tunes, layered with new sounds. Dhan te te...!!!
