Finding Fanny Music Review
There is no doubt that director Homi Adajania has made a name for himself in Bollywood despite just having two major films, BEING CYRUS and COCKTAIL, to his credit. In fact COCKTAIL had boasted of some stupendous superhit music. So, we expect some 'hatke' and intellectually gratifying musical experience from the supremely gifted but quite fresh composer, Mathias Duplessy, who has helmed music for films like PEEPLI LIVE and A FAKIR IN VENICE, as also the in vogue Sachin-Jigar and Sachin Gupta. Let's check out what these composers have to offer.

The first number, 'Fanny Re', aptly sums up the theme or spirit of the movie. Composed by Mathias Duplessy and sung with a lot of zeal and fervor by Mukhtiyar Ali, the light on the senses dance number makes for a fun hear. The musical orchestrations, leaning towards Latino (Spanish or may be Portuguese as well since the movie is Goa based) with emphasis on guitar and violin, gives that different touch to the song.
'Mahi Ve' is just another version of the song, 'Fanny Re', with slightly different lyrics (more Punjabi included). More like space filler.
Angie urges Ferdie to go out in search of his love. Helping Angie out is her widowed mother-in-law Rosie (Dimple Kapadia), Savio DaGama (Arjun Kapoor) and Don Pedro (Pankaj Kapur), the local artist. This journey of theirs to help Ferdie find Fanny also helps them knock on the door of love.

Coming back to Deepika, she charms her way on the screen with her complete understanding of Angie, the bottled up character she plays. Naseeruddin Shah gives a gem of a performance as the lovelorn old man who has suddenly found his joie de vivre.
Pankaj as the eccentric artist who has the 'hots' for Rosie is a revelation. Watch the scene when he paints Rosie in an open field. Also watch for Rosie's reaction after the completion of the painting. Dimple is delightful.

Arjun Kapoor sheds his angry young man role to play this boy lost in love with imposing impact. And that's the best part of this cast, each has such powerful roles that they don't get into anyone's shoes.
Goa is captured beautifully with its villages and road scenes, not to mention the English in which they all speak!
FINDING FANNY is a treat for cinema lovers. It's as though filmmakers have finally realized that audiences too have to be respected.
