Gumnaam Music Review
Some movies are named to reality. "Gumnaam - The Unknown" just seems to be one of them. The movie promos have been frequenting since quite some time, but the movie still appears to be totally Unknown to the audiences. Mahima Chaudhary and Dino Morea are struggling to make a scintillating pair on the silver screen, but the fizz is just not making any waves. The cast also includes Suman Rangnathan who made a very promising start with the Bhatt camp in Fareb, but soon after that, her presence besmirched from Cameos to Item Songs and finally to contemptible B grade flicks.
Coming back to "Gumnaam - The Unknown", the movie is produced by Shubir S. Mukerji's and directed by Neeraj Pathak, while Nadeem Shravan and Sameer provide lackluster musical treatment to this typical Bollywood potboiler.
An average tune from Nadeem Shravan's decade old musical reserves, inaugurates this regular compilation. Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghoshal effortlessly waste their immense talents in this conventionally composed track and Sameer's pen would have probably done this track all by itself it's so used to all this.
The album races further away from melody with "Zalim Ishq". Shaan and Sunidhi just be themselves while the hysterical and frantic pulsation in the milieu adds to the swiftness of this racy dance number.
The silver lining on this dark cloud comes into being with "Naa Hone Denge". Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik might have walked down the memory lane while singing this one, as the track's melody is at least a decade old. Decade ago, however, the music was much better and melody was ruling and so is this track in the album. The Club Mix of this track by DJ Nasha is just an extension of the goodness of the track, but it's difficult for it to make it to any happening pubs or discs, for obvious reasons.
Adnan Sami wobbles and wriggles and so does his voice in "Ishq Mein Kitna". Nadeem Shravan also experiments his newfound talent - Monika Nath who is good but not great. A tragic number by nature does have some consequential lyrics and that is it.
"Dhoke Mein Naa Aana" thankfully concludes the album for the benefit of the listeners. Abhijeet, Alka Yagnik and Sarika finish their jobs and leave while the track leaves no stone unturned in tarnishing the already derelict situation.
It is apparent from the look of the movie and the music that the entire project is a drag. Long years in making or lack of financial support or a great star cast, reasons can be endless, but today's audience is smart enough to sense the fate of a sloppy product even before it is presented and unfortunately, "Gumnaan - The Unknown" is just one of them.
