Hasee Toh Phasee Music Review
Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Anurag Kashyap's Phantom Productions, Vikramaditya Motwane of UDAAN and LOOTERA fame and Vikas Bahl, all team up for the youthful rom-com HASEE TOH PHASEE And naturally with such big names uniting, and all of them being associated with exceptionally high quality music in their previous ventures, expectations abound from composers Vishal-Shekhar and lyricists Amitabh Bhattacharya and Kumaar to deliver some really good and classy but 'hatke' music. So let's check out the album.

'Punjabi Wedding Song' as the title suggests, is like any other Dharma Productions celebration party tracks that has its base in 'Bhangra' pop and rock. The oft heard tune is a letdown and it also has some influences of V-S's 'Radha' (STUDENT OF THE YEAR) in parts. Sunidhi Chauhan sails through and Benny Dayal provides supports. Amitabh Bhattacharya deserves a pat on the back for some (as always!) unique, interesting lyrics. 'I toh go crazy jab bajde Punjabi wedding song'. Alas! People will not go crazy hearing this song.
'Shake It Like Shammi', the retro club rock and roll dance number is an ode to the legendary dance king, the evergreen Shammi Kapoor, as is evident from the title. Benny Dayal is just the right choice and Vishal comes in with the English interludes, but overall the song is nothing to write home about and it falls short of paying the perfect homage to the king.
CHECK OUT: HASEE TOH PHASEE - Songs Lyrics
The track that introduces the female lead Parineeti Chopra, 'Drama Queen', and etches out her totally whacky and over the top character has a nice blend of folk and western. The 'mukhda' is catchy and Shreya Ghoshal renders the song with zeal and emotions with Vishal Dadlani supporting well.
As a standalone number 'Manchala' is extraordinary with haunting addictive feel in its extraordinary arrangements. Shafqat Amanat Ali's rendition (along with Nupur Pant) is classy, but the song has shades of Shafqat's Bollywood hit, 'Mitwa'. Soft, somber, melancholy romantic atmosphere is well crafted through some nice words.
From here builds the suspense as to why Meeta is behaving so weirdly and what connection Karishma has with Meeta. Once Nikhil realizes who Meeta really is, he changes his attitude and goes out of his way to try and understand her and solve her problems. All this while he is also busy planning his wedding and going through some more break-ups with Karishma as well as trying to find an investor for his business, when he is not asking money from Karishma's father.

The film is part-romance and part-comedy.
After STUDENT OF THE YEAR, Sidharth comes up with a confident show. Completely in sync with the role he has to portray, he matches the brilliance of Parineeti, who once again proves that she is a force to reckon with. Adah too throws in a confident performance. She proves that her performance in 1920 was no flash in the pan. In fact, her presence and performance is a welcome surprise when the promos deliberately concentrated on Parineeti and Sidharth. It was not an out-and-out Parineeti-Sidharth romance! This is also one of the reasons why the film worked for me.
Although the film grows on you towards the end, the love angle does defy logic.
HASEE TOH PHASEE will work for some!
