The young and talented, Manish Tiwary, impressed all with his very first film, DIL DOSTI ETC. His latest venture, ISSAQ, once again stars youngsters and some fresh talents as well as experienced ones and is a love story, reportedly an adaptation of Shakespeare's classic love drama, ROMEO AND JULIET, based around the holy city of Banaras. Indeed, a coincidence! Another film after RAANJHANAA which is Banaras based! Highly talented composers Sachin-Jigar are flying high after the stupendous success of GO GOA GONE and RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA (audio) and we expect them to come up with some out of the box (as always!) scores. Guest composer Krsna too comes up with a number, so let's check out whether the album has enough ammunition to provide Prateik with his first solo success.
Lovely orchestration, haunting tune, superb romantic lyrics and Mohit Chauhan's mesmerizing vocals, all work together to make up the excellent love ditty, 'Issaq Tera'
, a number that is slowly and surely going to make a place in the hearts of all die hard romantics. Sure fire hit.
The 'Issaq Tera'
duet is more heavy in arrangements, and fresh talent Smita Jain's hushed husky vocals accompany Mohit in this brief but lovely outing.
CHECK OUT: ISSAQ on the same lines as ISHAQZAADE or RAANJHANAA?
Sad, separation or 'judaai'
number, 'Jheeni Re Jheeni'
, is a good piece of work which has many shades which blend seamlessly into the Northern Indian flavor of ISSAQ with semi-classical and folk fused together. Rashid Khan's deep throated high pitched vocals are just class apart Lyrics are 'khadi boli'
which (in parts) might be a bit difficult for all to comprehend but they do fit the situational demand.
'Jheeni Re Jheeni'
duet sees the entry of Pratibha Baghel whose soft vocals complement Rashid.
Prateik needs a complete makeover. He continues to act like a boor in love. Was this film shot just after his EKK DEEWANA THA? What happened to the talented lad we saw in JAANE TU... YA JAANE NA... His act works best for films like MY FRIEND PINTO.
The lad needs to take time out, watch the DVDs of his movies and sit with an 'acting counsellor' and come back with scripts that suit his image. Or else, directors with vision will have to test him with characters that challenge an actor.
Amrya Dastur, who makes her debut, matches her skills with that of rest of the cast. And that is saying a lot for a newcomer.
ISSAQ is a love story set in troubled times with troubled families. ISHAQZAADE was the same. Dig out a DVD of this Arjun Kapoor-Parineeti Chopra starrer instead.
Shakespeare would be proud of Habib Faisal for fleshing out Parma and Zoya, and adapting it so beautifully to Romeo & Juliet.
