An Anurag Kashyap presentation, Prateek Entertainments' Zeishan Quadri (GANGS OF WASSEYPUR fame) directed MEERUTHIYA GANGSTERS is a crime-com thriller. As may be recalled Zeishan had told us, ''This time we have a good musical score with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan singing a track. Even WASSEYPUR has songs, but there is more scope for music in MEERUTHIYA GANGSTERS.'' Keeping that in mind one expects a good product, in sync with the situational music. Let us confront the GANGSTERS!
The album ends on an excellent note with the highly melodious romantic composition 'Naina Tose Lage' and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's magical vocals delight senses and background musical arrangements (flute, guitar) enchant. Arafat Mehmood's lyrics are simple desi Hindi and Urdu. A song that will easily will rate as one of Rahat's best.
Pawni A Pandey renders the female version of 'Naina Tose Laage' (almost unplugged) and does quite well with just minimal music in the background.
(A recent promotional romantic track, rendered by cricketer Suresh Raina, does not find a place in the soundtrack).
Summing up, director Zeishan Quadri keeps his promise in his directorial venture, 'Meeruthiya Gangsters', and the result is a pleasantly surprising audio score. Relatively new composer Siddhant Madhav has shown his musical skills here with finesse. Our picks are the title track, 'Mastam Mastam', 'Babaji Ka Ghanta' and 'Naina Tose Laage'. The film is due to release next Friday and good audio score should help its cause.
