The new releases of the week, LAALI KI SHAADI MEIN LAADDOO DEEWANA, BLUE MOUNTAINS, MUKTI BHAWAN and MIRZA JUULIET etc., failed to cut much ice with the audience. While there were a few bright spots here and there, but nothing to be optimistic about, as far as box-office prospects are concerned.
Meanwhile, last Friday’s Taapsee Pannu starrer NAAM SHABANA did manage a decent 26-27 crore week, due to presence of Akshay Kumar as well as the BABY connection but the high procurement price of the film reduces its potential to succeed. Having said that, the National Award for Akshay Kumar may just act as manna from heaven for the film.
Coming to the older release, Anushka-Diljit starrer, PHILLAURI, the film added another 4 crore for a total of 26 crore in two weeks from India. Taking into account the creditable $2m from the overseas, PHILLAURI has pleasantly surprised with its success, with an average plus status.
Concluding with the Varun-Alia starrer, BADRINATH KI DULHANIA, the film added other 3.50 crore thus netting 115.50 crore (to be validated) in four weeks from India and is a super hit.
