Poor box office response to both SHOWBIZ and RETURN OF HANUMAN has kept the last Friday release jinx for Bollywood intact.
It must be noted that traditionally, none of the films released on the last Friday of a year has done well at the box office. The trend has been witnessed for years in succession and the box office response to films like I SEE YOU (2006), SHIKHAR (2005) and DIL MAANGE MORE (2004) has been a testimony to the same. These three films were released on 9th Dec 2006, 30th Dec 2005 and 31st Dec 2004 respectively and none of them made any ripples at the theaters.
Sadly, both SHOWBIZ and RETURN OF HANUMAN have also opened to an even poorer response and though the latter still has some chances of survival due to decent word of mouth and expected patronage by children, SHOWBIZ is a complete letdown and not showing any signs of revival whatsoever.
Maybe, there has to be a release of a film starring one of the Khans or an Akshay Kumar or a Hrthik Roshan on the last Friday of 2008 that may just about break the jinx!
