NEW YORK does not make Katrina serious!
Critics as well as the paying audience have hailed Katrina's role as Maya in the Kabir Khan directed NEW YORK, as one of her best performance till date. The film has turned out to be the first universal success of the year, ending a pathetic first half on a bright note, grossing 55 crores worldwide during its opening week.
After NEW YORK, there is Prakash Jha's RAJNEETI, where once again Katrina plays a very serious and sober character. So, is it a conscious attempt by the pretty Katty Baby to break away from the stereotype sexy, cute girl image and move on to roles of substance?

There was also a buzz in the media that it is a deliberate attempt by Katrina to sign roles opposite younger heroes and do more meaningful films. Well, fans need not be alarmed; Katrina is not going totally serious! Even though Katrina has a few such films lined up, it does not mean that she would stick to doing serious stuff. In fact Katrina assures that (seeing her flair for comedy) that she would continue to do all kinds of roles and especially comedy, which she personally enjoys. Citing two examples of her upcoming films, DE DANA DAN (Priyadarshan's next with Akshay, Sunil and Paresh) and Rajkumar Santoshi's AJAB PREM KI GAZAB KAHANI opposite Ranbir Kapoor, both of which are light hearted comedies. And then there is the action packed underwater adventure BLUE (with Akshay and Sanjay Dutt), where she has a surprise role.
Definitely audience loved her RACE, SINGH IS KINNG and WELCOME as well as NEW YORK, so Katrina as of now can go on doing whatever pleases her as she is undoubtedly the number one actress of Bollywood, irrespective what the so called power lists say!
