India dominated in the boxing category at the Commonwealth Games held in Australia as Mary Kom, Gaurav Solanki and Vikas Krishan each won gold for their respective weight categories, Mary Kom made her debut in the competition as she was unable to compete in 2014.

The recent surge of accomplishments has found its appreciation in the Indian film industry as well as a host of films were produced taking these stories as inspiration.

Films like MARY KOM, MUKKABAAZ, SAALA KHADOOS all taking their stories and holding these impressive achievements as inspiration to create a base as the sport has found a new audience who is eager to step into the ring with gloves on and brawl it out.

While Bollywood has been in love with this subject, now it has also caught the fancy of Marathi cinema.

Another film which is titled, BEDHADAK, a Marathi film is about to release this year, directed by Santosh Manjrekhar who has done films like MEE SHIVAJIRAJE BHOSALE BOLTOY. And perhaps this is a rare Marathi film to explore the sport of boxing.

The film tells the story of a boy, being subjected to shame and criticism by his father who also is the principal of the college he attends due to his poor academics, the kid falls in love with the sport of boxing and finds his calling after his coach takes him in and nurtures him.

The film showcases on subjects like academics and sports and tells the story that no two people are alike and that each and every one excels in their own way.

Written by Govind Tukaram Taware, it is a heart-warming story of a kid who does not know where his life is leading to and finds his purpose in life with the proper care and guidance.

This subject matter is relevant in today’s time as the nation with the populous of more than a Billion has largely ignored sports barring a few exceptions, with parents forcing a burden of expectations on their child without knowing what they want to pursue.

Produced by Mandar Govind Taware, the film is scheduled to release on 1st June 2018.
