Nothing better than being associated with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in your first film, says Nilofer Wani
The new song from JAZBAA ‘Kahaaniyaan’ featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan that released lately is quite being raved about. The impactful song is composed by newcomer Arko Pravo Mukherjee and voiced by singer-songwriter Nilofer Wani along with Arko himself.
And Nilofer is mighty happy to have made her debut as singer with a big project like JAZBAA, especially crooning for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. “I am absolutely glad to do the playback for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is considered as the icon of Bollywood. It’s nothing better than this to get associated with people like Aishwarya. It’s of course great because it also has best team like Irrfan Khan, Sanjay Gupta attached with it. It’s the best platform that any artist would want to associate with. It was like a good full platter for me and I accepted it.”

But did she do some voice modulation to match-up to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s soft vocals? “I did no training or didn’t even change the vocals. It’s a very happy song in happy space. And I am sure it suits Aishwarya’s beautiful voice and personality. It was perfect for JAZBAA. I have sung it very naturally, it’s my natural voice and I haven’t copied anybody. But of course it has lot of variations. ‘Kahaaniyaan’ is close to my heart. It will give you that instant energy whatever work you are engaged in,” Nilofer says.
Ask Nilofer how she bagged a biggie like JAZBAA and she reveals, “Arko and I kind of worked together. We made five songs, out of which ‘Kahaaniyaan’ is one of them. Since it’s such a beautiful number composed by Arko with my voice, we thought of putting it in a movie. Arko suggested that we should kind of try out for Bollywood. We met Zee (group), they liked it and offered us JAZBAA. When I heard that it has a great star cast and it is directed by Sanjay Gupta, I was really happy. It was the best opportunity that one could ever get, to be a part of a project like JAZBAA with best of the stars.”Also Read : Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: I didn't feel my absence from films
Nilofer further discloses how she teamed up with Arko, “I am basically from Kashmir and then moved to Delhi after marriage for 16 years. I couldn’t pursue singing because I had my kids to look after. All these years I dedicated myself to family. Then, I thought that it’s time now that I should pursue my dream. As I am too much connected to music and when I sing I am at peace, I thought why shouldn’t I go for it. So I came to Mumbai, I was introduced to Arko through a common friend. Also, I have many friends in Bollywood. So they guided me well. I met Arko and decided to jam some music together. That’s how ‘Kahaaniyaan’ was born and rest is history.”
Where singers start up very early, Nilofer is unfazed to take up singing profession much late in life. On the contrary she feels everything is destined and it happened at right time with JAZBAA. “Whatever destiny has written for you no one can change it or turn it around. In my case, I think God already had planned around and I am happy because I don’t come from a family of musicians. I think it’s never too late to start anything and I think right time is now. I gave my 101 percent for ‘Kahaaniyaan’ song,” says Nilofer.
Besides JAZBAA, Nilofer has done a song for T-series and she is also coming up with a Kashmiri folk song and a Sufi song, for which she will be shooting next month and it will be out in November.
