Now Bollywood inspires furniture!!!

'Bachchan and Beyond', the first exhibition of its kind in Mumbai featuring Bollywood inspired collectibles and furniture is being presented by designer Suneeta Nanda at The Club, Mumbai on 1st December 2003. The show will be inaugurated by none other than the 'B Big' himself i.e. Amitabh Bachchan.

Suneeta Nanda, a fashion stylist and designer since the last ten years has created a range of Collectors Items: Hand-painted Chair and Coffee Tables - made of sleeperwood, the texture is rough hewn and craggy. These have been ragrolled, as in given a shaded effect in colors. The back of the chair has a hand-painted portrait of a Bollywood persona on canvas. Photo Canvas on Props and Designer Screens - these are hand-painted canvas on stars, which would be strategically placed on various props. These canvas screens would be set on wood and they have a stylish contemporary look to them. Placemats, Coasters, and Bookmarks - The Placemats and Coasters are mediated visual images, which have been framed with NR glass. These frames are textured and ragrolled to go with the look of the pictures. Coasters with images of Raja Ravi Verma, Moulin Rouge, Chicago and even Maharani Gayatri Devi.

The Highlight of this Exhibition is a hand-painted chair in trackwood, which has Amitabh Bachchan's portrait painted on the back of the chair. Suneeta presented this chair to Bachchan on his sixtyth birthday. It is now believed to be within his living spaces. His words of appreciation and encouragement were a great inspiration for Suneeta who then took on the task of designing an entire line and resultant was Bollywood Lifestyle Collection. Some pieces of Bollywood memorabilia, autographed by Big B himself are another focal point of this exhibition.

While the central theme of the exhibition revolves around the BigB, Suneeta's passion for films and the legends of Bollywood have been reflected in the styling of each piece and prop. From celluloid to digital output, "Bachchan and Beyond" is an exciting show for Cinephiles everywhere. This showing on Bollywood is all about mediated visual image on various props, the images have been digitally reproduced and then given a hand-painted look. Creative techniques such as double exposures and strobe effects have been used on different media interfaces and processing technologies, by Suneeta.

The styling of props on Bollywood is also quite unique; Suneeta has created soft furnishings, like sheer curtains and cushion covers on Bollywood and old vintage film posters form the backdrop of my placemats and coasters. There are also interesting items like bags on Hollywood, which have been structured to look like Monte-Cristo Cigar Boxes.

A fashion stylist and a designer, Suneeta Nanda has always been fascinated by the aesthetics and fashion trends that come through in Bollywood movies. Even her creativity in fashion design always portrayed a theme based on Bollywood, from 1942-A classic collection, A tribute to the Legends of Indian Cinema - Raj Kapoor and Nargis, The Madhuri-Fida Collection to my Dil To Pagal Hai Collection - its all about nostalgia designing.
