Pallavi Sharda stepped in Bollywood with BESHARAM, opposite Ranbir Kapoor. She later had a pivotal role in HAWAIZAADA and she will now be seen in a fierce and hard-hitting role in BEGUM JAAN as one of the girls at the brothel. Pallavi essays the role like a boss with a stellar star cast in BEGUM JAAN.

In conversation with BEGUM JAAN actress Pallavi Sharda as she speaks about her journey through Bollywood, essaying the role of a prostitute in BEGUM JAAN and working alongside Vidya Balan, who is fondly referred as ‘hero’ in film industry.

From BESHARAM to BEGUM JAAN, what do you have to say about this transition?
I am lucky and blessed to be in this industry and it’s not a transition. The character that I essayed in BESHARAM was different and in BEGUM JAAN it’s an overall a new character  that of a prostitute. It has various shades.

You have always played girl next door, was it easy to essay the role of a prostitute on-screen and how did you prepare for it?
We had workshops for it and it was challenging for me to essay the role but at the same time the movie has a powerful message. I play one of the brothel girls 'Gulaboo'. I can’t divulge much but yes it’s really a dream-come-true role wherein there is so much of talent in one frame.

Till now the films that you did were hero-driven. This is the first time you are doing a women centric film. Was it a different liberty to do BEGUM JAAN?
This film deals with a different aspect as it deals with life of  a prostitute in brothel which is set in pre-independence era. There are male actors as well like  Naseer Saab, Chunkey Pandey, who have pivotal roles. The movie has an interesting cast.

Since you are a trained classical dancer, how was it to dance on Bollywood numbers?
Dance is everything for me. I am passionate about it. I love freestyle  dancing and also Bharat Natyam as I am trained in it and I also like Bollywood dance style. For me dance is an emotion.

How was it working with Vidya Balan?
It was a pleasure working with Vidya Balan. She is a power house performer. I learnt a lot from her.

Any role that you would like to essay and you think you will best fit into it?
I would love to do a comedy, or a romantic film. At this point I am open to good projects!
