RAAZI: Alia-Arjit and SEL unite all with patriotic zeal in ‘Ae Watan’

Dharma Productions and Meghna Gulzar directed RAAZI, an unusual espionage patriotic thriller inspired from Harinder Sikka’s novel, CALLING SEHMAT, based on a real life story of a Kashmiri girl (essayed by Alia Bhatt), sent as a spy to Pakistan during 1971 war. So keeping in mind the topical political context with the Kashmir issue grabbing headlines, the film itself is highly anticipated. The makers released the video of the first song, ‘Ae Watan’, composed by Shankar-Ehsan-Loy which starts with Alia expressing her desire to volunteer as a spy to serve her motherland. The video takes the audience on a thrilling journey of Sehmat getting married to a Pakistani army officer (essayed by handsome Vicky Kaushal), being trained in the art of espionage by Jaideep Ahlawat, who is Alia’s supervisor and finally reaching Pakistan and working passionately for her country. Although the song itself has shades of the iconic ‘Ae watan, Ae watan’ (SHAHEED-1965), but later on SEL get into their own groove with Arjit whipping up patriotic fervour in this superbly crafted and penned (by none other than maestro Gulzar Sahab) composition.

Ae watan…
Mere watan…

Ae watan.. aabaad rahe tu
Aabaad rahe tu… (aabaad rahe tu)

Ae watan, watan mere, aabaad rahe tu
Ae watan, watan mere, aabaad rahe tu
(Ae watan, watan mere, aabaad rahe tu)

Main jahan rahun, jahaan me yaad rahe tu
(Main jahan rahun, jahaan me yaad rahe tu)

Ae watan… mere watan!(Ae watan… mere watan!)

Tu hi meri manzil, pehchan tujhi se
(Tu hi meri manzil, pehchan tujhi se)

Pahunchu main jahaan bhi
Meri buniyad rahe tu
(Pahunchu main jahaan bhi
Meri buniyad rahe tu)

Ae watan, watan mere, aabaad rahe tu
Main jahan rahun, jahaan me yaad rahe tu
Ae watan… mere watan!
(Ae watan… mere watan!)

Tujhpe koi gham ki aanch aane nahin doon
(Tujhpe koi gham ki aanch aane nahin doon)

Kurbaan meri jaan tujhpe, shaad rahe tu
(Kurbaan meri jaan tujhpe, shaad rahe tu)

Ae watan, watan mere, aabaad rahe tu
Main jahan rahun, jahaan me yaad rahe tu
Aye watan… (aye watan…)
Mere watan… (mere watan…)
Aabaad rahe tu…
Aabaad rahe tu…

Ae watan… mere watan
Aabaad rahe tu!

WATAN KE AAGE KUCH NAHI
KHUD BHI NAHI.
