Bollywood’s one of the finest actors, philanthropist and popular television presenter – Farooque Shaikh was born today in the year 1948. We, at had an opportunity of interacting with this great actor during the promotion of his film Listen... Amaya and miss him too.

Today, Google also dedicated its doodle to the late Bollywood actor Farooque Shaikh on his 70th birth anniversary. The doodle is inspired by one of the most celebrated movies of all times, Umrao Jaan, and Shaikh's role in it. Born in a small village Amroli in Surat, Gujarat, in the family of zamindars. Shaikh grew up in Mumbai, setting out to pursue a career in law, just like his lawyer father, until he identified his true calling in cinema. He was not only a great movie actor, but his contribution to the world of television and theatre has also been equally appreciated.

Farooque Shaikh got his first break in M S Sathyu's landmark film GARAM HAVA, where Farooque had a supporting role with the leading man being Balraj Sahni. After which, the actor shot to fame with his performances in Satyajit Ray's SHATRANJ KE KHILADI, his lead role in GAMAN and other films like CHASHME BADDOOR, UMRAO JAAN and BAZAAR among others. Farooque Shaikh had an impeccable comic timing that stays in the minds of his fans through his many films. Moreover, Farooque Shaikh is also the recipient of the National Award for Best Actor in a supporting role for the 2010 action drama movie LAHORE. Shaikh had also hosted a popular TV talk show Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai where he interviewed many Bollywood celebrities.
