It is said that music has been the best gift that mankind has ever received. Over the years our films have succeeded in winning the people’s heart not just within the country but also across the world. Music has always been a very integral and most impactful part of our cinema. Since its inception Bollywood has churned out some of the most iconic and classic songs of all time.

In 1983 Ilaiyaraaja, one of the finest music composers our industry gave us the heart-wrenching and soulful song ‘Ae Zindagi Gale Laga le’ in the film SADMA. The film marked the debut of this celebrated music composer in Hindi cinema.

The poignant lyrics of ‘Ae Zindagi Gale Laga le’ penned by Gulzar Saab were so touching that the song moved and turned everyone emotional. Rendered by Suresh Wadkar, the song went on to become a classic song of all time.

Now 33 years later, going with the current trend of reprising classic songs and presenting them to the contemporary audience, new-age composer Amit Trivedi has reprised this beautiful song in the upcoming film DEAR ZINDAGI, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt in the lead. Much to the music aficionados delight the film has not just one but two versions of the song, one rendered by current singing sensation of Bollywood Arijit Singh and the other one rendered by Alia Bhatt.

While the video is not yet released, going by the audio of the song Arijit’s version is bit fast paced and has been given a complete contemporary feel to it with the use of electric guitars and drum beats.  Though Arijit Singh has made his way into the music lover’s heart quite effortlessly with his singing prowess, the singer fails to do justice to this classic song. When singer of Arijit Singh’s caliber failed so miserably you can imagine what Alia Bhatt’s voice must have done to the song.

Previously the song was also used in 2013 film PRAGUE, where an unplugged version of the song was created. The music was rearranged by Ehsas and the song was sung by Suryaveer Hooja. However this version too had let down the music lovers.

While the audio hasn’t really impressed us, you never know if the video makes some different impact. Well, let’s wait and watch for the song to arrive!
