History says Salman and Eid result in a blockbuster opening week and an all-time blockbuster hit status.
Just a cursory glance through our box-office archives of some of Salman’s latest films released on Eid, like SULTAN, BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN, KICK etc will make things crystal clear. So let’s not waste our time by getting into comparative number crunching.
Coming straight to the point, Eid 2017 saw the release of the Kabir Khan directed Salman Khan starrer, TUBELIGHT. The expectations were obviously sky high, given the track record of Salman-Kabir’s last blockbuster Eid project, BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN, which after a humongous start, ended up netting 325 crore just from India.
However, as per our box-office sources, TUBELIGHT has netted 107 crore during the opening week from India, and the way it is progressing in the second weekend, the film will be lucky to get anywhere near to the 140 crore mark in the end count.
In the overseas too, TUBELIGHT has grossed an ordinary £265,000 from UK and an average $930,000 from the US, during the Eid weekend (23-25 June).
For the stat conscious the film has grossed $6m during the opening week, as per early estimates.
Well, the inevitable box-office outcome has saddened the hearts of all bhai fans, but all is not lost and before we leave the good news is that the next probable Salman release, TIGER ZINDA HAI (follow up to EK THA TIGER) will hopefully set the record straight.
