Sanskaari Babuji Aloknath accused of rape: #MeToo gets the momentum it deserves
The #MeToo movement has opened the dirty pages of misbehavior, rape and misconduct towards women in Bollywood. After Tanushree Dutta v/s Nana Patekar, Vikas Behl v/s Kangana Ranaut, it’s the erstwhile ideal family man the Sanskaari Babuji’ aka actor Aloknath charged with allegations of rape and sexual harassment by writer-director-producer Vinta Nanda.
Vinta Nanda who made the popular soap opera TARA during the 90’s, shard a post on his facebook account recollecting the trauma faced by the lead of the serial TARA – Navneet Nishan saying that she has been "raped" and "brutalised", though the post didn,t mentioned any name, the writer in a statement given to IANS confirmed that it was actor Aloknath and she believed that my saying ‘sanskari’ the message will be delivered.
The post has opened up past wounds and if we go by records and interviews given by Navneet Nishan who alleged that Aloknath was an alcoholic and use to misbehave with her during the shoot. For those who have come late, before getting typecast by netizens as ‘Sanskari Babuji’, Aloknath has had his shades of grey during his hey days as a television star in demand. The old interviews, gossip materials and people from the media active during those era say that Navneet and Vinita where disturbed due to Aloknath’s behavior.
According to reports Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA) has taken it seriously and is likely to issue a notice to Alok Nath, seeking his stand on the sexual harassment allegations.
In the Facebook post, Nanda called the actor — popular for his roles as a stereotypical Indian father, personifying religious traditions and moral values in movies and TV shows — “alcoholic, shameless and obnoxious”.
Nanda described how the actor allegedly harassed the lead actress on the sets of Tara, Navneet Nishan, without naming her in the post. "He would mess with her on the sets and everyone would be silent. When she complained to us, we decided to let him go," she wrote. The production team had decided to remove him from the show, she adds. However, Tara went off air abruptly and her other shows running on the channel were also cancelled.
The allegations of Tanushree Dutta against Nana Patekar has triggered the #MeToo movement in Bollywood and it should be taken seriously and looked with a broader perspective rather than an individual incident. Vinita Nanda’s post has recalled the wrong doings of actor Aloknath who has allegedly had a past of troubling his fellow female artiste, the unaware netizens labeled the actor as ‘Sanskari’ for fun but now the same netizens are demanding severe punishment for Aloknath, CINTAA may take the matter seriously, the movement has began and its not just about Tanushree Dutta anymore..
