Shahrukh Khan's CHENNAI EXPRESS to beat Salman Khan's EK THA TIGER record
There was a feeling in the trade and distribution sector that the star power of Shahrukh Khan was waning, as compared to his compatriots like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar, and also due to Ranbir Kapoor emerging as the latest official superstar after YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI. And there was a general perception that SRK's days at the top were numbered.
But what everyone seemed to have ignored was the fact that King Khan's last three ventures, RA.ONE, DON 2 and JAB TAK HAI JAAN were all solo starrers and easily went past the 100 crore mark.
However, his latest, the Rohit Shetty's directed CHENNAI EXPRESS has silenced all his detractors. The film is on a record breaking spree (by huge margins) starting with the Thursday paid previews (about which we had already told our patrons).
On the second day, that is Friday, as per some trade sources (not all!), CHENNAI EXPRESS has broken the best single day record of Salman Khan's EK THA TIGER by netting over 33 crores. The film has not stopped at that, and the next record on its menu is the three day weekend record of Ranbir Kapoor's YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI (62-63crore), which it will now beat by 20-25 crore!
Not halting even at that, the 'Record Express' (as it is being referred to in the media and cyber world), will have the distinction of crossing the 100 crore mark on the third or fourth day (to be validated), once again beating Salman Khan's EK THA TIGER, which achieved the distinction on the fifth day.
It will just be a formality to inform that in the overseas circuit where King Khan's star power is unchallenged, CHENNAI EXPRESS has smashed all existing records and in every circuit.
Well, no wonder SRK fans are saying that CHENNAI EXPRESS is not breaking records, rather creating them and also add (taking inspiration from a CE dialogue) - Never under estimate the power of a Shah Rukh Khan!
