While trade is abuzz with confirmed news around Shahrukh Khan and Rohit Shetty coming together for a film titled CHENNAI EXPRESS, the development is notable due to reasons more than one. While it would be for the first time that Rohit would be directing a superstar other than Ajay Devgn, even for Shahrukh Khan this would be akin to stepping into a new zone. Reason being that with an exception off Anubhav Sinha (for RA.ONE) in recent times, Shahrukh has mainly worked with friends and close associates.

"If you look at the last three releases of Shahrukh Khan, they have all been with directors who have also been his friend friends. Be it Karan Johar (MY NAME IS KHAN), Aditya Chopra (RAB NE BANA DI JODI ) or Farah Khan (OM SHANTI OM )-these have been people who belonged to his inner circle," says a source, "In fact Anubhav Sinha was the only 'outsider' who was roped in for RA. ONE because of the kind of technical expertise that he comes with and the fact that he had put together the entire film. Now Shahrukh is stepping out and bringing Rohit who has been a huge force in reshaping Ajay Devgn's career."

Another factor that tilts in Rohit's favour is his good experience in filmmaking as well as the hit record that he carries.

"Yes, this is true," informs an industry observer, "Shahrukh has worked as a leading man in close to twenty films in last ten years but none of his directors had made more than five films in their lifetime when he decided to work with them. In fact he trusted quite a few filmmakers who had either none or just two-three films to their credit. Now it is Rohit Shetty with as many as seven films to his credit who has been entrusted to do the job."

Well, with the kind of experience that Rohit has accumulated over the years, Shahrukh won't mind sticking his neck out even if the director doesn't belong to his camp. After all it is a successful combination that counts, isn't it?
