Bollywood actors support cleanliness drive in Mumbai slums
Actors Sohail Khan and Zayed Khan along with Retd. Gen. GD Bakshi came to support artist-social activist Rouble Nagi and Misaal Mumbai in their initiative to clean the slums of Bharat Nagar, BKC, and to provide the residents with better hygiene and sanitation and eventually a better lifestyle. The Bharat Nagar slums now don a colourful new look and the same refurbished and the roofs redone.
Rouble Nagi, though her Misaal Mumbai initiative, has been responsible for painting and revamping the slums of Dhobi Ghat, Dharavi, Jafar Baba Colony, Carter Road, Thane among many other areas.
\"I would like to say that today we all have come together for this cleanliness drive and I am of the opinion that 'Swachh Bharat' is a movement that everyone should be taking part in. If we all understand and learn that we have to just keep our own area clean, then we will not need outsiders to come and do the job for us. We are certainly here to help the residents, but most importantly, we want to teach them that they have to be responsible for their own cleanliness. And I am very thankful to Sohail and Zayed, Both are like my family and have been extremely supportive,\" added Rouble Nagi.
\"We’ve had many people promising us and playing vote bank politics but when it comes to work, they all take the back seat. But here is one woman whose intentions are clear and selfless. The kind of work Rouble has been doing is commendable. She has the gusto to go and change things. This is not about religion - the biggest religion is humanity indeed. We have to stay at the same place, drink the same water, and eat the same food. This will in fact be a ‘misaal’ that where (Bharat Nagar) the Muslim population dwells in majority, my friend, Rouble Nagi is representing that area, expressed Zayed Khan.Retd. Gen. GD Bakshi echoed their thoughts.
\"In fact, I am feeling extremely guilty that I haven't been able to come forward to support Rouble in this noble cause earlier. We come this side often and we always passed through this place but we never really pay attention. I've been keeping a close tab on Rouble's work and she has been doing a great job at educating the slum dwellers and creating awareness about the fact that we just have to make an effort to keep our surroundings clean and be responsible for ourselves. The rest will automatically follow suit,\" said Sohail Khan.
