Sonu's first english album "Spirit Unfolding"
East meets west in Sonu Nigam's first English language album. American audiences will soon have the pleasure of learning why fans across the globe buy his music in record numbers.Rita Coolidge, the Grammy Award winning singer/actor, joins Sonu on three songs. Their voices blend beautifully. Percussionist Brent Lewis, whose talents include writing scores for films and ballets, adds unusual rhythms to the pieces. Most of Sonu's lyrics were written with Ellen Goldberg, an American journalist who has strong ties to Indian culture.Sutapa Ghosh, whose films Utsab and Titli, directed by Rituparno Ghosh, have won awards and appreciation in India as well as in other countries, produced the CD, which was recorded in Joshua Tree, California.This is the first major project of Son et Lumiere, a Houston corporation formed by Sonu Nigam and Sutapa Ghosh.Spirit Unfolding is an introspective collection of ten songs conceived by Sonu, India's world-famous singing star/composer/actor. The album is one of self-discovery. Many of the melodies are haunting, and the words express his deep feelings of love and optimism for a bright future.At last year's inaugural dinner "Houston As a Filmmaker's Paradise," launching the new corporation, Sonu and Sutapa explained "Son et Lumiere" meant "Sound and Light. "Music as well as film projects are planned. Negotiations are under way with distributors, and the album is scheduled to be released worldwide before the end of 2003.
