Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu graced the ramp for an event by Forevermark and DeBeers’ group in collaboration with the UN for the cause of #HeForShe. The evening promoted gender equality and displayed its stunning Red Carpet Collection 2018 through a unique fashion show of women achievers. The event showcased 20 women who have contributed to gender equality and the advancement of women in several fields.
Some of the powerful women walking the ramp as champions of gender equality included Priti Rathi Gupta, a prominent leader in the financial services industry, who has long championed financial freedom for Indian women; Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, who has portrayed strong female characters in her films, renowned lawyer Mrunalini Deshmukh, Soudamani Sawant, an architect and more! Bollywood star Taapsee Pannu also graced the runway with her charisma. These women were draped in the designs of Shaina NC, a popular fashion designer and social activist; the collection flaunted vibrant shades of aqua, green, red, pink, etc., and accessories such as chandelier earrings, palm jams, cocktail rings and statement necklaces expertly crafted by Forevermark.
Shaina NC said, “Women empower women! Many of these women, walking today are not professional models; please do clap for them and applaud them for their contributions. Most of them have contributed through Anganwadi's, through films, through financial literacy, and through art.”
Taapsee Pannu said, “There are countless female goddess’ but we are still fighting for equality; the same womb which gives birth is probably not allowed to enter the most auspicious of places during those taboo 5 days of the month. We’ve reached the moon and are planning to reach galaxies for that matter, and we are still talking about women empowerment. But here we are, looking at the glass half full with all these beautiful women out here today. I am just so privileged standing here among them. This makes me truly feel special – And of course #HeForShe – thanks to all these men, I am sure we cannot make this change on our own, we definitely need help. It should not just be ‘SheForShe’ or ‘HeForShe’ it should be ‘WeForShe’!”
