Its the time to bid adieu to the year 2018 as we move ahead to welcome the grand new year 2019. The year 2018 saw a chain of ups and downs in the Bollywood film industry as it made headlines on the front page. while many of the top-notch films dipped down, this year definitely proved the best for certain content driven movies. Apart from films, many Bollywood power couples too tied the knot whereas some entered the beautiful phase of parenthood. Peeping on another side our film industry this year also landed up in tons of controversies that blew off minds with the unseen and dark realities that were behind the curtains for years. As we welcome the year 2019, here's a look back at top news breakers of the year 2018.
It has been a tragic year for Bollywood as we lost some of our gems. The year began with legendary actress and dancer Sridevi's death that shook entire film fraternity. Her sudden demise left all her fans and lovers in deep shock. Later veteran actress Rita Bhaduri who was seen in movies KABHI HAAN KABHI NAA, DIL VIL PYAAR VYAAR and more passed away due to kidney issues. Krishna Raj Kapoor the eldest member of Kapoor family died due to cardiac arrest. Renowned singer Mohammad Aziz too passed away due to cardiac arrest. We express our sincerest condolences to their family.
Babies born this year:
Soon after 6 months of the wedding, Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi were blessed with a baby girl. Naming her Mehr Dhupia, mommy Neha had shared an image of her foot on social media and revealed her name. On another hand, Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput too turned parents for the second time to baby boy Zain Kapoor. Unlike Misha Kapoor, Shahid did not keep Zain Kapoor under wraps from paparazzi, so his fans could get to see a look. But not to be ignored Taimur Ali Khan has been the king of social media as he has stolen hearts of everyone with his over cute look and is just loved by the media. Paparazzi never loses a chance to capture the munchkin on the roll.
Top trolled celebrities:
With the emerging space of social media, trolling celebrities has become quick on the tip of fingers. A simple tweet, picture or comment can make a celebrity the talk of the town by getting trolled either humorously or negatively. Undoubtedly Anushka Sharma tops the list for getting trolled for her look from SUI DHAAGA: MADE IN INDIA, apart from her presence with the BCCI team in London. Her moves have always been followed by the paparazzi. Celebs keep on playing with their looks flaunting their fashion to the public but it isn't always praised, Parineeti Chopra became a point of trolls for coloring her hair red, netizens expressed their disappointment for her look. The sensational wink of the year that set the internet on fire, Priya Warrier turned a star in a night. Her video went viral on the internet and was loved by the netizens, but social media users pulled in Katrina Kaif for her acting abilities. Priyanka Chopra on another hand who tied the knot with singer Nick Jonas got trolled for her long veil she carried on her Christian wedding. In no time after her pictures went viral on social media, netizens took a toll for her veil. The 75 feet long veil did grabbed eyeballs of many but eventually landed up in a trunk of jokes and memes. While Calvin and Klein ambassador Disha Patani has been a sensation for her exotic pictures in bikinis. But one of her picture for Diwali faced criticisms and got trolled for sporting a white pair of inners. The netizens did not appreciate such attire for an auspicious occasion.
Bollywood and controversy run hand in hand. No stranger to controversies, Bollywood this year witnessed a course of accusations, allegations, censorships and more. While the strongest and destructing was the Me too movement that begun with Tanushree Dutta's sexual harassment allegations over Nana Patekar followed with many dark truths that were revealed later though not proved completely, so no one knows who is actually in the hot water. Renowned veterans like Jeetendra and filmmaker Subhash Ghai too were the victim of Me Too movement. On the other hand, films like PADMAAVAT, SATYAMEVA JAYATE faced threats from infringed groups while social message driven movie PADMAN was in rounds for the controversy surrounding a man selling sanitary napkins. A heart grabbing movie like HITCHKI which made its way for success internationally found itself in some allegations of plagiarism. Nevertheless, the controversies did not stop the films to earn success at the box office. Not so highly blasphemous, actor Sidharth Malhotra was slammed for his degrading comments on the Bhojpuri Language while Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and others were booked in Delhi High court for allegedly making a casteist remark against Schedule Castes during the promotion of the movie TIGER ZINDA HAI.
Top secret relationships of the year:
Celebrity relationships have never been away from the media and public. They come into the light by hook or crook. Like always this year two couples created buzz for dating each other. Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt and Malaika Arora and Arjun Kapoor were on hands and under speculations for their relationships. Though the couples haven't officially announced about their status they are often spotted hanging out and chilling with each other. Well, we soon except the lovey doveys to make their relationship official.
Top weddings of the year:
Beginning with Sonam Kapoor this year, many top-notch B-town actors tied the knot this year. Fashionista Sonam Kapoor took marriage vows with her boyfriend Anand Ahuja in May 2018, Later after a gap of months a hoard of weddings began as hottest couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh got married in Italy followed with Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas' wedding. These three couples made the most of the wedding season and their pictures had left everyone crazy. Talking about the most expensive wedding of the year Isha Ambani got married to Anand Piramal in the most royal way, it undoubtedly looked like any other fairy tale. Bollywood actor and Television fame Kapil Sharma too hitched with Ginni Chathrath, while filmmaker Dinesh Vijan too tied the knot with Pramita Tanwar. We wish them a happy married life.
Recreation of the earlier songs have been on a roll but not all of them could make a mark in the playlist. Apart from recreations, some original tracks did impress with their flavored and peppy music. While 2018 saw T-Series belt out rehashes of '90s songs and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan ghazals, it also witnessed Amit Trivedi rise as the man behind the maximum number of standalone albums this year. Here's a list of some songs.

Unlike each year this year wasn't under the hands of the Khans. 2018 proved that content is King and not Khans. The success of experimental and fresh concepts like STREE, BADHAAI HO and ANDHADHUN was embraced by the audience over the Khans-led RACE 3, THUGS OF HINDOSTAN and ZERO, which had set high expectations but fell flat at the box office. The experimentations concluded not just losses to the box office but also with tons of criticisms from the audience and critics. Shah Rukh Khan as a dwarf couldn't meet the expectations, while Aamir Khan who for the first time shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan in Thugs had already dipped for its trailer so did the film and Salman Khan hit on the ground for RACE 3 that left audience head scratching. No, wonder the star led industry is now transforming.
2018 proved a year of content-rich movies for Bollywood and specifically a year for Kaushals and Khurranas. Boys of the year Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal are on the skyline for their best deliveries this year. The most outstanding movies of the year included PADMAAVAT, RAAZI, ANDHADHUN, BADHAAI HO, SANJU, STREE, and TUMBBAD. From period drama to biopics to dark films, audience and critics appreciated these movies and proved to be the best hits of the year. The year-end has been also stunning with Ranveer Singh's smashing entertainer SIMMBA.
