The curious case of AIYAARY: The ‘fear’, ‘defence’ and the certificate
Like a well etched Neeraj Pandey thriller, AIYAARY's release date has taken snaky turns. The espionage drama starring Sidharth Malhora, Manoj Bajpayee and Rakul Preet has changed dates that are astonishingly similar in the way the lead characters in the movie have changed their get ups.
Things that look settled now with Neeraj Pandey posting the CBFC certificate on his social media handle is actually a caution or say cause of concern. By analyzing the incidents since the announcement of AIYAARY release, to the last story in its ‘defence’ according to a buzz is believed to be ‘ministered’ (read spread, circulated) hinting that something has gone wrong somewhere.
The curious case of AIYAARY release date got cautious when we came to know that the movie needs an approval from the Ministry of Defence! This is strange. Did the makers realized at the editing table after finishing the shoot that they have actually ended up making a movie on armed forces? It’s a standard practice for any filmmaker to get the approval from the concern department if he is making a movie on them. Don't we have disclaimers which say that “no animals were harmed during the making of this particular movie”. The makers should have taken the approval from the MOD (Ministry of Defence) if their movie was on army backdrop and also spoke about corruption in the department.
Secondly, what was CBFC doing? According to our sources, the board should have informed the concerned ministry as the movie was initially schedule to release on 26th January 2018 with PAD MAN. As per the rules, a movie needs to be submitted before 68 days to the CBFC for approval. Neither the CBFC nor the producers bothered about the Defence Ministry till the end of January 2018!
Remember AIYAARY was set to release on 26 January 2018, so was it without the approval of the Defence Ministry? Digging further we come to know that during the promotions of AIYAARY, the cast and crew posed with the army jawans. So weren’t the officials of the Army aware that a movie based on them is coming?
How a movie can have its promotion planned with Army jawans without a prior permission and intimidation to the Defence Ministry?.
As per reports, Akshay Kumar postponed PAD MAN to make way for Bhansali’s magnum opus starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor on January 25 2018. The movie is still having a good run and it is needles to add PAD MAN starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte is the current hot favorite amongst the audience. How much to blame the multiplexes for arm twisting in the scenario when a hit is declared within 3 days of its theatrical release is an highly debatable issue altogether.
The point is - are things settled with AIYAARY? Made by the helmer who gained significance as the voice of common man in A WEDNESDAY? Neeraj Pandey who claims that all the questions are answered by finally arriving on February 16 2018, thanking CBFC, and MOD (Ministry of Defence) and posting it on his social media handle raises some questions.
The changes in release date was a result of ‘negligence’ on part of the makers or CBFC or was it ‘fear’ of the touted runaway hit PAD MAN resulting in lesser screens for Neeraj Pandey’s espionage thriller, The CBFC certificate dated (yesterday) – 6 th February 2018 is not enough for the ‘defence’.
Finally... this just arrived. All cleared for #AiyaaryOnFeb16 now! Thank you #CBFCIndia. Thank you MOD.
