Tinnu Anand: Ram Gopal Varma wanted to prove that he is bigger than SHOLAY
Several filmmakers have attempted for remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s popular films. While some could taste the success, some others bit the dust! Where DON and AGNEEPATH remakes were lapped up by the audience, ZANJEER and SHOLAY’s new versions were rejected outrightly by one and all.
As the actor-filmmaker Tinnu Anand is set for the remake of his own film KAALIA that had starred Amitabh Bachchan (probably for the first time we will see an original director recreating his own product), he also shares his point of view regarding Amitabh Bachchan’s films, especially SHOLAY remake (AAG), made by RGV. “If you have seen Ram Gopal Varma’s AAG, it was more of Ram Gopal Varma’s film than the remake of SHOLAY. He wanted to prove that the he was bigger than the film or story telling itself. That is where he went wrong I think,” Tinnu ji gives his perspective.
“One should not interfere or try to ‘bring in your own version’ of a film that is iconic. I believe one should rather work on it and present it in a modern way than anything else. I have been a great admirer of KAALIA so I am making it. But I don’t know if Ramu was a great admirer of SHOLAY or not. Because the interviews didn’t really show that he was admirable of SHOLAY. Probably, he thought that he could improve upon it and that was his failure,” he adds.
Further Tinnu ji, who is returning to direction after a long sabbatical, says that KAALIA remake will be modernized. “I am not going to improve upon it but I am going to modernize it more as per contemporary times. Like original, I’ll try to make the characters unforgettable here also,” says the director.
Well, Tinnu ji we quite believe that KAALIA remake would be certainly great like the original!
