20th Century Fox has finally dropped the first trailer of the X-Men franchise, DARK PHOENIX, starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan. While Jessica Chastain is the new addition who's character is still unknown it is speculated that she may play an antagonist in the film.

The film is a direct sequel to 2016’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and revolves around Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey being possessed by a powerful evil entity, the Dark Phoenix. The trailer was revealed on Wednesday’s Late Late Show alongside James Corden. The film’s release date was rescheduled from November to February 2019.

In DARK PHOENIX, the X-men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite -- not only to save Jean's soul but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

The film has the original storyline from the X-Men comics, The Dark Phoenix Saga written by Chris Claremont.

DARK PHOENIX directed by Simon Kinberg and is scheduled to release on 14 February 2019.
