Dr. Akhlaq Mohammed Khan is known to the world by the pen name Shahryar, the world famous Urdu poet. Shahryar's works are marked by imagist configurations, non-allusive treatment of subject and an intriguing inclination towards softness of tone and tenor. His diction draws heavily upon the spoken idiom of the Hindustani of today.

Shahryar has also been associated with movies like GAMAN, FAASLE and obviously Muzaffar Ali's classic, UMRAO JAAN. Though J P Dutta tried valiantly to re-create the same subject and roped in Javed Akhtar (who wrote some beautiful lyrics), it is still Shahryar's 'Dil Cheez Kya Hai' that the music lovers remember.

So, here is some good news for the fans of the well known poet. At present he is researching about the most powerful Mughal queen, Noor Jahan, for which he is going to write after a big gap. It is once again going to be made by Muzaffar Ali of UMRAO JAAN fame. Shahryar is going through the works of well known writers like Ellison Banks Findly and Chandra Pant about Mughal Emperor Jehangir's wife, Queen Noor Jahan.
