Vidya Balan calls it a ‘special’ award, Rajkummar Rao says it’s an award that reinstall’s faith.. An award that has made Bollywood speak from their heart..

Yesterday, a night after the Oscars, The 2018 edition of Power Brands-Bollywood Film Journalist's Awards, organized by Planman Motion Pictures and Daily Indian Media, was held at a posh hotel in Mumbai. India's only film awards decided on the basis of open ballot voting done by 22 of the most prominent film critics/journalists, is the most transparent Bollywood awards in times of alleged partiality and favoritisms seen in Bollywood awards primarily designed as entertainment shows for channels.

Receiving the honours as best actress for TUMHARI SULU, Vidya Balan said, “I thank all the 22 jury members, eminent journalists who voted for me. TUMHARI SULLU is a very special film for me and my producer Tanuj Garg, and I am extremely delighted to have received this award tonight. I have always believed in working on films that offers me something new to explore. And anything that's new can either be a success or a flop. But when you are recognized for taking up challenges, encourages you to do better in life. This is something ‘special’.

Rajkumar Rao who achieved a rare feat by winning the honors as best actor for TRAPPED and NEWTON (associate winner – 2nd highest vote) said, “ I think this is one of those moments when you feel good about yourself. As an actor, I choose the best I get offered, and when that work gets recognized by 22 eminent journalists from across the country, that reinstalls faith in the work that I am doing. Thanks for the appreciation.”.

Power Brands-Bollywood Film Journalist's Awards is the only transparent movie awards which honours not only the winner who bags the highest votes but also the runner up in the same category. Rajkummar Rao won highest votes for TRAPPED and for his role in NEWTON, he was the runner up. Voting of the journalist/critics selected as jury went online a fortnight before the award function.

Rajkummar Rao also shared the best actor in supporting role honour with Manav Kaul for BAREILLY KI BARFI and TUMHARI SULU respectively. So, a hat - trick for the multitalented Rajkummar!.

Arindam Chaudhuri, the man behind Planman and the brain behind this unique initiative, thanked the voting jury profusely for their integrity and courage for exercising their ballot in a very transparent manner. Arindam Chaudhuri said, “ “Awards are given even if you merely attend an awards ceremony, or at the diktat of channels that want viewership. We decided to entrust the selection to critics who have been watching films every week for years.” The company plans to expand its base of journalists in the next edition.

Raveena Tandon who received a special award said, “This Award is one of the most democratic award, because of its transparency. This will also remain very special for me, because this for the first time that I am receiving an award with my husband Anil Thadani. If I am the "power" than he is the "brand", we complement each other.

Yesteryears actress Moushumi Chatterjee the original PARINEETA (1969) who has starred in iconic films like ROTI KAPADA AUR MAKAN, ANAND ASHRAM, ANGOOR to name a few and was last seen in Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone starrer PIKU, was conferred with life time achievement award at the event.
