Zoa Morani: Despite reaching stardom, Shah Rukh Khan doesn't mind doing ordinary things
When we exclusively interviewed Zoa Morani while she was promoting her film BHAAG JOHNNY, she told us about how things weren't easy for her. Zoa said, “Yes, in my debut film, I got the opportunity to be launched by Shah Rukh sir. Before that, one and a half year, you can’t even imagine how much I’ve struggled. So it was the hard way for me. I went to every audition, did so many classes. There was something that was going to work out but didn't. So being a papa's (Karim Morani's) daughter, yes everything's a phone call away. Tomorrow, if I want to meet a director, I can just call and meet them. But when that person will meet me, it doesn't mean he will offer me his movie. I need to have the talent in me and be suitable to the character.”

But Zoa's struggle was not just confined till she bagged the film ALWAYS KABHI KABHI. Even after the release of her first film, she had to strive hard. Zoa shared, “Forget before ALWAYS KABHI KABHI, I had to struggle even after the movie. I did exactly what every newcomer did when they came. Eventually, it's your hard work, talent, confidence and choices that's going to pay off and make your career. When I'm in front of the camera, being my father's daughter isn't going to help. I would say my struggle is continuous, and it would probably end once I've achieved success. But I have a lot of friends who say that once you achieve the success, it's still a struggle. So the struggle is actually never ending. But it's not at all been easy for me.”
Recalling the times of ALWAYS KABHI KABHI, Zoa told us, “I never in my wildest dreams thought that Shah Rukh Khan will be the producer of my debut film. Even today, every time I think of that time, I feel so grateful. Because it’s been my dream since I was a child. Who wouldn’t expect Shah Rukh Khan to launch you? The four (leads of the film) of us used to get along like house on fire. That whole experience was so much fun that it doesn’t matter if the film worked or no. Even today, when I watch the movie on TV, I always cry. It helped me understand how far I have to go, what it is that I have to learn. ALWAYS KABHI KABHI was like I was going back to school days.”
When we asked Zoa if Shah Rukh Khan was the one to guide her, she said, “Shah Rukh sir shot with us for the song and gave us very lovely insights all the time. He’s very sweet like that. Always talking to young people and inspiring them. Shah Rukh sir’s will of coming from Delhi without any godfather or anything, was more inspiring for me than his words. He did TV, theatre and look at what he is today! He doesn’t have that ‘I’ve reached stardom so I won’t do ordinary things.’ He’s so dedicated and focused. Even if it’s a little interview or wanting to know what he has to wear, he doesn’t take his stardom for granted. We are usually like we are so tired. But he’s so energetic! And I’m like ‘if he can do it being such a big superstar, then who am I?’ His life is only such a big inspiration that it just shakes you up. Every time you’re getting off-track a little bit, it’s like ‘get up get up, work hard.’ So that’s what I’ll tell if you ask me about Shah Rukh sir.”
Well Zoa, hearing your side of the story, we really think there might be someone who could be inspired by you, just like you are inspired by Shah Rukh Khan. Good luck!
