Juneteenth is celebrated as Freedom day in US every year on 19th June. Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The name “Juneteenth” references the date of the holiday, combining the words “June” and “nineteenth.”
Celebrities from tom Hanks, Taylor Swift, Beyonce and others have wished Juneteenth to their fans by posting it on the Instagram.
Tom Hanks posted “A Day to celebrate. Nationally. Working towards Liberty and Justice. For All. Hanx.
Morgan Freeman posted “JUNETEENTH commemorates emancipation from slavery and celebrates the culture and achievements of African Americans. This date is considered to be the official end of slavery. On June 19, 1865, Major Gordon Granger and his Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to deliver the news that the war ended & that the enslaved were now free. This event took place two & a half years AFTER President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared all slaves free as of January 1, 1863.”
Taylor Swift posted “Happy Juneteenth!
I want to thank @the.root and @thedanielleyoung for allowing me to post this video about the significance of today, June 19th, and why it should be celebrated as a National holiday. Personally, I’ve made the decision to give all of my employees June 19th off in honor of Freedom Day from now on, and to continue to educate myself on the history that brought us to this present moment. For my family, everything that has transpired recently gives us an opportunity to reflect, listen, and reprogram any part of our lives that hasn’t been loudly and ferociously anti-racist, and to never let privilege lie dormant when it could be used to stand up for what’s right.”
Beyonce “Happy Juneteenth Weekend! I hope we continue to share joy and celebrate each other, even in the midst of struggle. Please continue to remember our beauty, strength and power.

Katy Perry posted “Juneteenth
Many of us are taught that slavery came to an end with the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, but for enslaved people in Texas, freedom didn’t come until June 19, 1865. #Juneteenth is a day to celebrate freedom, culture, and the progress achieved through activism and voting. I’m working with @WhenWeAllVote to continue the efforts of past generations who fought for Black lives, Black voices, and Black votes. None of us are free until all of us are free.”
