Maleficent: Mistress of Evil movie review: Disappointing

MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL movie review is here. The sequel to the 2014 film MALEFICENT, the sequel sees Angelina Jolie returning to portray the title role. The dark fantasy adventure film is produced by Walt Disney Pictures, directed by Joachim Rønning, and written by Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue, and Noah Harpster. Does it serves as a boon or is ‘cursed’ by the evil of sequels?. Let’s find out in the movie review of MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL.

Immediate reaction when the end credit rolls
Even a dream cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Michelle Pfeiffer and Elle Fanning cannot save a sequel like MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL that is ‘cursed’ by the market evil to grab on the hoopla entirely on the original’s popularity and success. Adding nothing new and failing to strive and make the difference.

Continuing from where the 2014 movie left, Aurora (Elle Fanning) is now set to marry her marry her beloved young prince Philip ( Harris Dickinson). Aurora’s fairy godmother Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) – Disney’s most notorious villain now has to face new adversaries in the struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.

Angelina Jolie reprising her role from the 2014 film, with those cheekbones and in a fairy avatar of BATMAN, the wicked witch from the Sleeping Beauty story faces identity crises over here is a scene stealer beyond doubt. Elle Fanning charms again as Aurora. With Michelle Pfeiffer adding her nuances and refined elegance Joachim Rønning’s MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL is an eye popping visual delight. It’s the sweeping magic in the story that the movie lacks and all the star power fails to lift this dark fantasy adventure from boredom.

Failing to hold, the movie then further ends up like a haphazard mess, the CGI warfare scene is nothing but a ho-hum spectacle.

Rønning adds nothing and just follows the thumb rule on how to cash on a money spinning sequel. Screenwriter Woolverton (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE LION KING is equally responsible as well.

Final words
MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL is a visual razzle dazzle with the stunning Jolie but alas she doesn,t has a gripping story to say in this midst of this picturesque fauna-drenched screensavers “The story is not quite as you were told,” the narrator concluded at the end. How ironically true.
