Immediate reaction when the end credits of CAPTAIN MARVEL rolls
A Marvel universe super hero flick so you dare not miss the end credits and when the end credits of CAPTAIN MARVEL started rolling, I was impressed by Marvel Comics’ Universe’s latest hero – its first female-led superhero CAPTAIN MARVEL who may have something more interesting to do in END GAME – the proposed grand finale of AVENGERS INFINITY WAR. So, was this 150 + million dollar production an introduction of MCU’s latest hero more than a solid stand alone ‘marvel’?! the answer is yes…

Based on Marvel Comics Carol Danvers by writer Roy Thomas (taking elements from 1971 – ‘Kree–Skrull War’) and artist Gene Colan, CAPTAIN MARVEL is set in 1990’s and follows the story of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

Good things about CAPTAIN MARVEL
Maintaining a good pace, directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleckd ensure that CAPTAIN MARVEL makes the loyal sci fi, super hero and especially Marvel fan happy throughout. Gigantic space battles, action, effects, scale and some good humour. The digitally de aged Samuel L Jackson is a delight and Jude Law is fantastic as ever.

Bad things about CAPTAIN MARVEL
Believe it or not, Brie Larson as super woman leaves an impression as a fighter while destroying the enemies of earth and her fab costume, but the wonderful actress fails to conquer the heart with her performance. The blame rests equally on the writers and the actress as there are examples of actor’s lifting the poorly etched character with their acting charms and nuances. What does Captain Marvel signifies?. Don’t know. Come on Marvel people, 10 years of legacy, 20 films and no proper explanation of their first woman led super hero flick! She has the body, the power – from where it is coming, why she is the chosen one? It’s a puzzle that constantly bangs your head in the midst of all these spectacular razzle dazzle. CAPTAIN MARVEL has the body, power, but where is that solid mind and soothing soul? There are times when we find this super hero ruled by impulse. Further, the period of 1990’s in the end doesn’t help the narrative in any way. It can be any era without making any difference. The Nirvana number ‘come as you are’ which comes in one of the scenes may be added as a reminder for those who have forgotten but ironically it works more as a suggestion to the makers of this flick.

Final words
Marvel’s latest super hero – its first female – led superhero Captain Marvel serves the fandom of MCU and nerds of sci-fi fantasy adventures in general. But the awesome MCU legacy deserved a better nuanced and solid super woman than this razzling dazzling crowd pleaser.
