The story of READY OR NOT
Newlywed Grace Le Domas (Samara Weaving) joins her new husband Alex Le Domas (Mark O’Brien) rich, eccentric family (Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, Andie MacDowell). At midnight, the newlywed bride is asked to honor a tradition and play a game that turns fatal with everyone fighting for their survival.

READY OR NOT review
Its giddily gory and outrageous, the black humour over powers the scares in this bloody game of hide and seek gone wrong. Remarkably enough Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett ’s black horror comedy hugs and kisses the ‘surival’ and ‘slasher’ genre as well. The absurdity of the premise is ignored as the deadly mix of black humour and slasher thrills engulf the audience.

Needless to add those who have a stomach for such giddy gory fun will be delighted while those who expect a sweet dreamy night wedding night will be banging the exit door for their survival. Shot in one location for most of the time, the makers Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett showcase their fondness for the genre and love for Polanski’s ROSEMARY’S BABY, Kubrick’s THE SHINING, etc. the picture of the lovely newlywed Grace holding the traditional gun of the Domas family gives a strange sadistic pleasure for a while.

That’s what black humour does to you as it surprises you by driving pleasures from things you will normally hate. The settings, atmosphere is rightly dark and creepy. Samara Weaving is marvelous as Grace. Mark O’Brien gets the audience support, Adam Brody is fine. Valiable support comes from Andie MacDowell, Kristian Bruun and Nicky Guadagni.

Flaws
After a while, the humourous push and pull between tradition and modernity runs out of steam turning repetitive.
