Adam Sandler recently revealed in a conversation that one of his acting coaches advised him to quit acting because he simply didn’t have what it took to succeed.
During a conversation with Brad Pitt for Variety, Sandler confirmed the rumours of a college acting professor who (mistakenly) urged him to quit the business.

Pitt spoke about the story in a conversation with Adam Sandler which was filmed by Variety.
"This is my favourite Adam Sandler story," Brad Pitt said, on further adding that he heard it from the Oscar-nominated director Bennett Miller. "You were at NYU, and it was your acting coach, I believe or acting professor," recalled Pitt.
"He took you out for a beer, you guys went to a bar, and he kindly said to you, ‘Think about something else. Listen, you’ve got heart, but you don’t have it. Choose another path.'"
"This is what I’m told: he took you out for a beer. You guys went to a bar and he kindly said to you: ‘Think about something else. Listen, you got heart, but you don’t have it. You don’t have it. Choose another path.’"
"It was like that," confirmed Sandler. "He sent a letter."
Pitt further went on to say there was another part to the story, the fact that at a later date when Adam had made it big, he ran into the same professor.
Rather than rub it in his face, Adam kindly introduced him to his friends and stated, "this is the only teacher to ever buy me a beer." Adding further Pitt said that Adam’s behavior during that interaction was likely the reason why he has continued to stay successful.
Sandler further went on to tell Brad that he loved him, and really appreciated what he spoke about his performance in Uncut Gems, for which Adam has received considerable praise. Uncut Gems, released this year in 2019, stars Adam Sandler. The film also has Eric Bogosian, Julia Fox, Lakeith Stanfield and Idina Menzel in key roles.
