The three-time Tony nominee and wife of actor Danny Burstein Rebecca Luker dies at 59 after battling ALS (Atrophic Laeral Serosis) a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function.
Rebecca Luker, the Broadway actor who earned Tony nominations for “Mary Poppins,” “The Music Man” and “Show Boat,” died on Wednesday at a hospital in Manhattan, just 10 months after revealing to the public that she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. She was 59.
Rebecca Luker had posted in her official website “Hello friends. I have some tough news. Late last year I was diagnosed with ALS. I have the best medical care in the world and the greatest support. My dear husband Danny has been an angel. I will get well. In the meantime, we fight and go forward. Keep us in your thoughts.”
Recently Rebecca Luker and Sally Wilfert (The Advertures of Tom Sawyer, Assassins) in an ode to female friendship release All the Girls Album. It features songs by Stephen Sondheim, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Kander and Ebb, and more. The PS Classics release will be available digitally December 25, followed by a CD January 15, 2021.

Winifred in the original Broadway production of MARY POPPINS (Tony Award nomination), Claudia Nardi in NINE opposite Antonio Banderas, Marian Paroo in THE MUSIC MAN (Tony Award nomination, Drama Desk Award nomination & Outer Critics Circle Award nomination), Maria in THE SOUND OF MUSIC (Outer Critics Circle Award nomination); Magnolia in SHOWBOAT (Tony Award nomination), Lily in THE SECRET GARDEN (Drama Desk Nomination); Christine in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Rebecca was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and received a Bachelor of Music degree as well as an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts degree from the University of Montevallo. She resided in New York City with her husband, actor Danny Burstein and her stepsons Alex and Zach.
