Ryan Reynolds has surprised 90s kids by roping in the iconic actor Rick Moranis to appear alongside him in a mobile phone advertisement.
Moranis, 67, who has kept a relatively low-profile recently made a surprise appearance and offered a nostalgic blast from the past when he appeared in a Mint Mobile ad alongside Ryan Reynolds.
The Honey I Shrunk the Kids star left Hollywood to focus on raising his children after his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky died of breast cancer in 1991.
Rick Moranis hasn’t made any appearances on film since the 2008 Canadian TV movie, Bob & Doug McKenzie’s Two-Four Anniversary.
The actor reportedly became famous when he appeared in 1984’s Ghostbusters alongside Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis.
Ryan Reynolds, who owns Mint Mobile and also appears in the ad, took to Twitter where he shared the Mint Mobile clip announcing Rick’s cameo, telling 2020 to “suck it.”
“Today @Mintmobile is launching unlimited for just $30 AND bringing back Rick Moranis. Suck it, 2020,” the Deadpool star wrote in the caption.
In the ad Ryan Reynolds announces the launch of Mint Mobile’s unlimited plan after a long time and brings in “an actor we’ve all gone too long without”.
“So, what do you want me to do? You want me to say something about Mint?” Moranis asks after Reynolds in a confused tone after he’s introduced. “I’ve really got to get a phone.”
The actor later admits he simply resurrected Rick Moranis into the fold because he’s “a huge fan” of the star. The pair share an awkward stare before Moranis promptly exits.
His new ad comes months after Deadline reported that he will be returning to live-action cinema with a Honey I Shrunk The Kids sequel called Shrunk.
In a statement to People magazine on Wednesday, Ryan Reynolds revealed that he marveled in the opportunity to act alongside Moranis, despite the brief 42-second spot.
