Australian singer-songwriter Sia has issued an apology after she mistook rapper Nicki Minaj for Cardi B on Twitter, saying that she made “a buffoon” out of herself.
In a now-deleted tweet, a fan asked the 44-year-old singer whether she would ever collaborated with Minaj along with a photograph of the rapper, reports people.com.
The songstress then replied to the tweet, but tagged Cardi B and wrote, “I love @iamcardib and although this isn’t a collaboration, I would love to COLLAB with her any day!”
The ‘Chandelier’ singer quickly faced criticism from netizens after they noticed the mix-up, who also included the hashtag “#SiaIsOverParty.”
One user commented, “SIA GIRL YOU NEED TO DELETE I`M NOT PLAYING.””THATS NOT CARDI,” another Twitter user wrote.
Initially, she thought that the fans are blaming her for adding fuel to the existing feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, who have had a tumultuous relationship in the past.
In another deleted tweet, she explained to her followers that Cardi B and Minaj aren’t focused on any feud, but “the problem of systemic racism” instead.
After the ordeal, the singer later issued an apology. “I totally misunderstood a tweet earlier that has resulted in me making a buffoon out of myself. Sorry, @NICKIMINAJ and @iamcardib if you hear about it. Can I just like you both.”
None of the rappers appear to have acknowledged the situation on social media.
As for Nicki Minaj, she’s celebrating the success of her latest music video ‘Trollz’ with Tekashi 6ix9ine, which has garnered over 60 million views on YouTube.
While, Cardi B has been vocal on Instagram in support of the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests, which arose across the United States after the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
