‘The Meg 2’ is finally happening and it has taken a step forward as it names its director.
The original film, which starred Jason Statham and Ruby Rose, debuted in 2018 and was a huge box office hit.
With ‘The Meg,’ a movie about a killer megalodon shark based on a novel written by Steve Alten amassing $530 million worldwide at the box office, a sequel was quickly announced off the back of its success.
This is exciting news for the fans who have been waiting for an update on the surprising sequel as the pre-production on the project has recently picked up speed as ‘The Meg 2’ has confirmed its director.
Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Sightseers, Rebecca) has been reportedly signed on to take over directing duties from filmmaker Jon Turteltaub, who directed the first flick from a screenplay written by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber.
‘The Meg’ follows the story of a shark expert who encounters a giant, 75-foot-long prehistoric shark called a megalodon while on a rescue dive to a stranded nuclear submarine.
The sequel is expected to see Jason Statham in a creative role with a number of key cast members returning for the upcoming sequel. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery, who produced the first film, will be returning to produce as well.
‘The Meg’ starred Statham with Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, and Winston Chao in the lead.
No release date has been announced for ‘The Meg 2’ as off yet.
