Lord Shiva, Shiv Ratri and the Hindi films

There are two lords who have had a distinct presence in the Hindi films right from the time when the films were being made. As a matter of fact there is endless number of films where Lord Shiva and his son Lord Ganesha have formed an interesting back drop in the Hindi films. It was Raj Kapoor who had this fascination for Lord Shiva in such a big manner that all his films that he produced and directed began with an invocation to the Lord, it being done by his father Prithvi Raj Kapoor. On this day, when the day is celebrated in his memory, it would be an opportune moment to pay tribute to him through his various manifestations that became landmark in Hindi films.




The dream sequence that Raj Kapoor picturised, Ghar Aaya mera Pardesi was for the first time in all probability when the image of Lord Shiva was used in such a distinct manner.
