It indeed is an intriguing predicament that on the one hand we are handed down the sermons that one should not run after easy money but try to make money by honest means, but in every such moment of introspection pop up films that sort of glorify the easy way of making money. It altogether is a different matter that in the end the means are not justified, but the glorification of the process is so elaborate that many a dreams are woven around it in the countryside. SHORT KUT and LUCK.

SHORT KUT has been produced by Anil Kapoor and starring Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi is being positioned as a laugh riot as two writers Aness Bazmee of NO ENTRY and Neeraj Vohra of PHIR HERA PHERI fame have written the story, so there is a sense of expectation around the film. It is also coupled with the fact that Anil Kapoor is one of the few actors in the industry who has a rare sense of chutzpah of the streets, and this is precisely the reason why he did not act in this film but decided to produce it so that the actuality of the real life situations could be reflected in vivid details. SHORT KUT-THE CON IS ON tagline underlines the importance of the con in a vivid manner.

In the recent times, the movie on easy money that hit bullís eye was JANNAT starring Emraan Hashmi which also was a hit probably owing to the fact that it was able to expose the underbelly of sleaze money in Cricket.

LUCK starring Imran Khan and Shruthi Hassan supported by Sanjay Dutt and Danny Denzongpa is another film that would be vying to carve a niche in the slot of easy money. It has one of the original conman of the Hindi industry Sanjay Dutt who thrived in such kind of films and whenever he has done these roles, as he started doing with KAANTE, he just excels.

The subject of easy money is a subject that is treated with panache in Hollywood as well, the Clint Eastwood series of GOOD BAD AND UGLY, or the numerous films that John Travolta did after he returned back starting with FACE OFF is a clear pointer to the fact that the subject has an allure. May be, the subject of easy money provides the leeway to the producers and directors to enlarge the scope of the canvas and attempt outlandishness on a scale that provides them the leeway to experiment.

Whatever is the reason, the allurement to make money and retire early in life is what sets the thought processes in us to go beyond the extreme and do the improbable, and this fantasy is put into reality through the cinematic expression, SHORT KUT-THE CON IS ON being the latest expression of the same sojourn.
