Indian cinema is said to be undergoing a sea change, with audiences demanding more boldness in terms of sexuality. But the truth is that a viewer goes to see the other side, probably the hilarious or sensitive, of life. Although in the beginning bold scenes were accepted by the conservative society, but with the world getting more and more closer, sexuality is being defined in a different way.
Films like Khwahish, which created a hype for 17 kissing scenes, or Boom with an array of beautiful women clad in the skimpiest clothes possible, or lately Janasheen, which has Celina Jaitley baring herself, just to play violin have been rejected by the audience for want of a good story line. On the other hand are movies like Chalte Chalte, Baghban and the recent Kal Ho Naa Ho, which have done fairly well. Reason: Emotional appeal accompanied by a fairly well done script.
All this is a clear indication to filmmakers that viewers are not morons and that sex without any basis has no place in Indian cinema.
