A series of explosions in movie theatres in a Bangladesh city has left a teenaged boy dead and injured seven.

Witnesses and police sources said three bombs went off in at the Rangamahal, Abakash and Monika film theatres in Sylhet within a span of 15 minutes Thursday night.

All three halls were crowded as late night shows were on. A 16-year-old boy was killed in the Rangamahal blast.

Police arrested one of the wounded, Mohammad Solaiman, near Monika, suspecting him of carrying bombs, police said.

Panic seized the entire city as news of the blasts spread. Police have tightened security in the city.

This was the third incident of bomb attack in Sylhet in six months.

In an explosion in May at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal, British High Commissioner Anwar Chowdhury was injured and three people were killed.

In January this year, five people were killed when several bombs went off at an annual religious congregation in the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal.

In December 2002 in Mymensingh, at least 18 people were killed and more than 200 injured in a series of blasts in four cinemas within 90 minutes.
