Besides producers, directors and stars, the ongoing film festival at Goa has also drawn select exhibitors who are busy exploring the idea of picking up some of the best films from over the world, that are being screened there. There was exhibitor Rajesh Thadani, who decided to take a look at the film market besides the programming manager of INOX, Arun Sharma. While Thadani decided to take it easy, Sharma made it a point to watch all the international films during his two-day stay and actually managed to strike a deal for exhibiting a Thai film at his multiplex. The film is called A BEAUTIFUL BOXER and it tells an intriguing story about a boxing champion, who decides to go for a sex change. “The film has already been sold in more than 30 countries and I liked it so much that I approached the distributors and decided to take it up for screening at my multiplex,” says Sharma, adding that it was a visual treat watching some of the best films in the world during the two days he spent at the venue.
In addition to A BEAUTIFUL BOXER, Sharma has also acquired a Goan film, which he says is the first of its kind made by the local people in Goa to promote the Goan flavor. However, both Sharma and Thadani lament that the film market put up at the festival is nowhere close to the one that is held in Cannes every year. ‘There are just 10-15 stalls, and none of them are interesting enough,” says Sharma.
