Vishal Bharadwaj's 'The Blue Umbrella' in final stages!
By Manisha Deshpande
A few days ago, we had broken the news about director Vishal Bharadwaj's next film, which he had been signed to direct for U.T.V. Motion Pictures. Now we hear that Bharadwaj has almost completed directing the film and is giving it his final touches. The film, based on a story by Ruskin Bond is called THE BLUE UMBRELLA, and is a children's film. It is not an English film as one would suspect, but a 90-minute Hindi film, starring Pankaj Kapur in the central role, besides child artist, Shreya, who is said to have given an excellent performance in the film.
The buzz is that Bharadwaj was averse to the idea of approaching C.F.S.I. (Children's Film Society of India) after the raw deal he got in his previous film, MAKDEE, which is why he approached U.T.V. to produce the film. The film is being targeted for a May 2005 release when students will have got over their examination fever, according to Bharadwaj's office. But prior to that, U.T.V. is planning to carry it to all the international film festivals including the Cannes festival.
