Filmmaker Kaizad Gustad and his crewmember Ashish Udeshi have been remanded in police custody till June 10 in connection with the death of British Pakistani Nadia Khan.

The two, along with a woman police constable, were arrested Wednesday in the death case of Khan, who died while assisting Gustad here on the film "Mumbai Central".

Gustad and line producer Udeshi were produced in a court here. They are facing charges under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Constable Darshana Vetti, who was deputed by Government Railway Police (GRP) at the Mahalaxmi station during the shoot of "Mumbai Central", has been arrested under the same charges.

Mumbai Central Railway Police arrested them more than a week after 27-year-old Khan's death. Initially, the film crew said Khan was hit by a truck, but eventually Gustad as well as others confessed that she was knocked down by a train at the Mahalaxmi station.

Police said Udeshi rushed grievously injured Nadia to nearby Nair Hospital but she succumbed to her injuries on the way to hospital.

Apart from Wednesday's action by railway police, Gustad and Udeshi will face action by Mumbai police for "lodging a false complaint and making false statements".

Javed Ahmed, joint police commissioner, said: "It is difficult to believe that Gustad's men made a false complaint of road accident just to save themselves from the hassles of law enforcing agencies and get speedy medical treatment to Nadia Khan, as claimed by them."

Western Railway has forfeited the money that Gustad had deposited while taking permission to shoot at the Mahalaxmi railway station.

About constable Vetti's arrest, Ramdas Mhatre, a senior police inspector of Mumbai Central Railway Police, said: "Neither did she report the accident to her officers, nor did she protest when co-accused Udeshi allegedly made a false statement to Tardeo police stating that Khan had died in a road accident."

A railway official had earlier said Gustad was shooting near the fast line to Churchgate, a heavy density track, in contravention to railway rules.

Khan's family in London said Gustad lied about the circumstances of her death to them too, saying it was "an automobile accident" instead of a train accident.
