"Lalooji’s name will draw enormous crowd!" says Mahesh V. Manjrekar

Laloo Prasad Yadav has been pretty much a star on the small screen for many years. Now it's time for the RJD supremo to make a splash on the big screen. So get set...
Nowadays, the film title which has caught everyone's attention is ‘Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav' . One wonders, why director Mahesh V. Manjrekar choose politician Laloo Prasad Yadav's name for his film. Was it because it sounded familiar? Or was it because he wanted to make a film on Laloo's life and times? Or was it because he couldn't think of a better name for his comic caper? Actually, its none of these. Manjrekar goes on to first clarify that the film “is not on Laloo's personal life.”
He adds, “ Laloo Prasad Yadav is one of the most familiar names in the country. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, everybody knows him. And why only in India, Laloo ji is even famous with quite a few people in some other countries too. A film bearing his name will draw enormous crowd. The initial response will be excellent, I think.”
Does that mean, he's trying to cash in on the comic side of the politician? “No, Laloo ji is not a comedian. But he is certainly a very witty character. He always has a fitting answer to every question,” Manjrekar says.
Will the RJD chief and now Railway Minister feel insulted in case the film flops? Manjrekar says: “ Lalooji is a generous man and the film's performance cannot affect his popularity. But at the same time, I expect this film to be a runaway hit and nothing less than that.” What's more! Laloo has even given him the green signal for the film. “It is very kind of him to grant us his permission and support,” adds lead actor Sunil Shetty who plays Laloo in the film. And just for the record, actress Masumeh (of ‘Chupke Chupke' and ‘Maqbool' fame) plays Padmashree, while director Mahesh V. Manjrekar acts the role of Prasad and Johnny Lever plays Yadav.
