My Friend GaneshaNext Friday will see the release of a few small but different movies. The line up is headed by the comedy caper JOURNEY BOMBAY TO GOA, along with the English film, THE BONG CONNECTION and the animated MY FRIEND GANESHA. None of the three is expected to create any significant impact at the box-office and that augurs well for the releases of last week; AAP KAA SURROOR, APNE and maybe AWARAPAN. However, if MY FRIEND GANESHA strikes a chord with the kids, like the animated HANUMAN, it may just surprise.

Moving on to last Friday's releases, no doubt the front runner from the pack was Himesh Reshammiya with AAP KAA SURROOR. With an excellent to mind-boggling start across India, the movie is on way to a definite hit and very early. With the extraordinary start that it has taken and the craze that it has generated, it will surely make a beeline to the class 'A' level for all its distributors, who have had it quite cheap. The second release of the week, Anil Sharma's APNE, featuring the three DEOLS, had a good start in North and Central India but was fair at other places, with collections hovering in the 40-60 percent range. The movie has the merits to grow on the strength of positive word of mouth and there are already signs of it. AWARAPAN, the costliest film from the Bhatts' stable, featuring Emraan Hashmi, got squished between AAP KAA SURROOR and APNE and had an opening that was dull to below the mark almost everywhere. It has an uphill task now to even cover its investment. While AAP KAA SURROOR dominated from the word go in India, in the Overseas, APNE had a great UK weekend with $360,355, at a healthy print average of $8,789. AAP KAA SURROOR has collected an ordinary (but creditable) $101,639, with a decent print average of $5,082. AWARAPAN managed just $53,436, though it is the highest ever for an Emraan Hashmi starrer.

Rahul Bose's CHAIN KULII KI MAIN KULII has failed miserably. In its opening week the movie collected 23 lakhs from Bombay, 6.50 lakhs from Chain Kulli Ki Main Kulii Movie PosterAhmedabad, 10.50 lakhs from Delhi, 2.10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.65 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.72 lakhs from Noida, 2.40 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Jaipur, 2 lakhs from Indore and 90 thousand from Nagpur. In its first week from India, CHAIN KULII KI MAIN KULII has collected around 1.15 crores and has flopped.

All hopes of a recovery for JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM disappeared after the second week numbers came out. Even Yash Raj could not have fathomed such a huge crash, one of the biggest ever for a big and prestigious project. Looking at the second week collections, JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM collected 80 lakhs from Bombay, 24 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 4.40 lakhs from Rajkot, 2.36 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1.30 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 1 lakh from Solapur, 2 lakhs from Nasik, 71.75 lakhs from Delhi city, 7.31 lakhs from Gurgaon, 8 lakhs from Faridabad, 10.25 lakhs from Noida, 5.30 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 14.22 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.42 lakhs from Guwahati, 1.45 lakhs from Agra, 2 lakhs from Aligarh, 4.80 lakhs from Nagpur, 50 thousand from Akola, 1.25 lakhs from Jabalpur, 5.60 lakhs from Indore, 2.25 lakhs from Bhopal, 53 thousand from Ujjain, 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 1 lakh (gross) from Bikaner, 16 lakhs from Hyderabad and 3 lakhs from View Jhoom Barabar Jhoom Movie Stills Aurangabad. In its second week, the 25-27 crore JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM collected around 5.25 crores (as opposed to nearly 20 crores in the first week). And the all-India total now stands at around 25.25 crores and the movie is the first losing venture for Yash Raj after nearly five years. In the Overseas too, JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM has been rejected in the US with around $700,000 so far but has much better in the UK with $1,203,606, though it has now crashed there also.

Just like many of the earlier releases, FOOL N FINAL gets the benefit of the JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM audience rejection and it collected 1.80 lakhs from Bombay, 3.05 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh each from Himmatnagar and Indore, 2.62 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.20 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.55 lakhs from Jaipur and 1.10 lakhs from Aurangabad. The movie that is on its last legs, managed to collect another 50 lakhs during the week, for an all-India total of 18.75 crores in four weeks. But FOOL N FINAL remains in the average to above-average slot. Though the movie has failed in the Overseas and has collected $270,803 from UK.

The Amitabh-Tabu starrer CHEENI KUM is still faring well in some big cities. It managed to collect 36 lakhs from Bombay, 7.50 lakhs From Ahmedabad, 16.90 lakhs from Delhi city, 3 lakhs from Noida, 1.85 lakhs from Kanpur, 2.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.40 lakhs from Indore and 5.20 lakhs from Hyderabad. Cheeni Kum Movie Poster The film collected another 1.05 crores for the week, taking its all-India total to 16.70 crores in five weeks. The 10-12 crore CHEENI KUM is an unquestionable semi-hit in India. The movie has also done very well in the Overseas, collecting $697,369 from US and $776,392 from UK.

Coming to SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA, the movie still has some fire left as it collected 28 lakhs from Bombay, 6.30 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh each from Rajkot and Bhavnagar, 7.75 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.20 lakhs from Gurgaon, 75 thousand from Faridabad, 1.60 lakhs from Noida, 2.42 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.85 lakhs from Varanasi and 1.70 lakhs from Nagpur. The movie collected around 0.95 crores during the week, for an all-India total of nearly 33 crores in five weeks. SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA is a superhit, given its reasonable selling prices, which were reduced at the last moment in Delhi-UP and East Punjab. However, like most action flicks, SHOOTOUT AT Download Metro WallpapersLOKHANDWALA has been rejected in the Overseas, collecting $298,935 from UK and $289,232 from US.

METRO or LIFE IN A... METRO, as some refer to it, sprung quite a surprise with an increase in its collections, as compared to the previous week! The Anurag Basu directed movie managed to collect nearly 50 lakhs in its seventh week, for an all-India total of 16.50 crores so far. METRO is now an unquestionable all-India hit.
