Sony Pictures' 2012, the biggest ever Hollywood release in India which opened today in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu is all set to break the box office records of its predecessors. With a total of 676 prints in 716 screens across the country, 2012 is already creating records of sorts, with theatres in cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Delhi NCR, Indore, Nagpur, Jaipur, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Chennai seeing full houses even on morning shows. In Hyderabad, where shows are fully booked for the next four days, crowds can be seen outside theatres in snaking queues, waiting to know whether they will survive 2012.

Cinemas like Inox, Gold, Fame, Citypride and Mangala in Pune, Inox and Devi in Chennai and PVR & Inox Garuda in Bangalore have reported all shows full for three days (Friday to Sunday) while Fame Lido, Fame Symphony and Inox Swagath are all shows full today and the trend is expected to continue, particularly in smaller cities like Indore, Baroda, Nagpur, Jaipur and Gwalior which have large numbers of single screen theatres.

Kercy Daruwala, Managing Director - Sony Pictures India said, "While it is too early for hard numbers, judging from the stupendous response, we are expecting the film to be one of the top grossing Hollywood films of all time in the country, following in the steps of other blockbusters from our studio such as the SPIDER-MAN series and BOND series. The huge marketing campaign around the film and the major human interest in the doomsday concept seem to be the cause of this scale of response from the audience."

Sony Pictures India is the no. 1 Hollywood studio in India with 6 out of the top 10 Hollywood films of all time including blockbusters like SPIDER-MAN 3, QUANTUM OF SOLACE, CASINO ROYALE, SPIDER-MAN 2, GODZILLA and CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN.

With several theories of the end of the world doing the rounds, provoking even NASA to speak out on the issue, Sony Pictures India released 2012 across the world on 13th November. Directed by Roland Emmerich (who has directed such past blockbusters as GODZILLA, INDEPENDENCE DAY, THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW and 10000 BC) and produced by Harald Kloser, Mark Gordon, and Larry Franco, the movie reveals the director's vision of the apocalypse that is expected to occur in 2012. The special-effects in the movie are the best that the world has ever seen with hours of mind-blowing special effects and action-packed scenes.
